Thoughts on Googles AMP
I started this draft but never wrote it. I wish I had. I'm pretty sure my thoughts where that I was skeptical of the approach.
Last week, Google announcedtktkt-blog_post their Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Projecttktkt-main-amp-site. The opening lines of the project site say:
For many, reading on the mobile web is a slow, clunky and frustrating experience - but it doesn’t have to be that way. The Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Project is an open source initiative that embodies the vision that publishers can create mobile optimized content once and have it load instantly everywhere.
Another pull quote from the project site home page:
If content is fast, flexible and beautiful, including compelling and effective ads, we can preserve the open web publishing model as well as the revenue streams so important to the sustainability of quality publishing.
